The Richard Wagner Monument in the Liebethaler Grund

A further point of interest in the vicinity of Graupa is the world’s largest Wagner Monument, by Richard Guhr, in the Liebethaler Grund. The terracing of the the valley’s sandstone formations led to an additional monumental aspect of the 12 foot high figure. It shows Wagner as a Grail Knight, surrounded by five allegorical figures representing the five aspects of his music; the spherical, the lyrical, the Dionysian, the tragic and the demonic.
